K.C. Cali

K.C. Cali works primarily in ink and watercolor, creating on-location drawings that keep the line visible and use transparent washes to describe light, movement, and place. Her practice is rooted in direct observation and quick decision-making, which gives her work its immediacy and documentary feel. Her subject range extends beyond racing scenes into figures and everyday environments, with an approach that’s closer to reportage sketching than studio illustration.

Cali is closely connected to the Urban Sketchers community and has been active with groups such as Orlando Urban Sketchers, where she has participated in location-based drawing meetups and community sketching events for years. This on-site habit is central to her process: she builds a scene from the essential structure first, then lets selective color and simplified shapes carry the moment. In her Saratoga body of work, Cali documents the routines and in-between moments that define the track: paddock movement, pre-race handling, morning activity, and the human choreography around the horses.
