Edward Rittenberg

Edward Rittenberg is a Nashville-based artist best known for bold floral paintings built with heavy-body acrylics and dense impasto. His path back to painting is part of his story: he took art classes as a kid, stepped away, then returned to the craft in his early thirties after a small challenge from his wife pushed him to start making work again. From there, he developed a studio practice centered on texture and color, using palette knives (and, early on, even spoons) to build surfaces that feel almost sculpted. His subjects come from nature, but he’s not aiming for exact replication, he’s after the impact of color, movement, and form.

Rittenberg’s work is collected for its immediate presence, thick paint, high color, and the way the surface catches light in person. He has spoken about bringing “nature from outside to inside” and letting the painting develop through process rather than perfection, which matches the physical way he builds each piece. He began actively selling his work in the early 2020s and quickly expanded into private collections around the country through gallery placements, juried shows, and commission requests.
