Artist Biography +
John Mansueto is an American landscape painter and freelance illustrator based on Long Island, known for coastal scenes and the overlooked beauty of beaches, coves, estuaries, rivers, and working waterfronts. He earned a BFA from Parsons School of Design (1983), and his illustrator’s training shows in the way he builds a painting: strong structure first, then light, then the impression of detail rather than over-description. His work is rooted in observation, but filtered through a painter’s understanding of depth, atmosphere, and compositional clarity.Mansueto’s background includes years as staff artist for the Fire Island Tide Newspaper, a role that kept him visually engaged with the changing character of shoreline life and local landscape. Today, he continues exploring both Long Island and New England, seeking scenes that feel specific without being precious. His paintings are collected for their sense of place and their quiet realism, where light and shadow shape the mood and the viewer feels invited into the space rather than kept at a distance. ×
