The Rhythm of the City

Alexei Butirskiy is a Russian painter born in Moscow in 1974, known for atmospheric urban scenes and an extraordinary command of light, stillness, and mood. He trained at Moscow Art College and later received his MFA from the Ilya Glazunov Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where he developed the rigorous classical foundation that continues to inform his work. His paintings are grounded in accomplished drawing, sophisticated composition, and a refined understanding of color, yet technical precision is never an end in itself. It is the means through which he builds an emotional experience that feels immediate, timeless, and deeply personal.

Although widely known for his luminous cityscapes, Butirskiy’s practice extends to landscapes, interiors, still lifes, portraiture, watercolors, and mixed-media paintings.
