The idea for Famous Fillies was sparked by a historic milestone: the 50th anniversary of Ruffian’s final race in 1975. Often called “The Queen of the Fillies,” Ruffian’s speed and spirit captured the imagination of millions. Though her story ended in heartbreak, her legacy continues to shine as one of the most unforgettable figures in the sport. The exhibition began as a tribute to her and grew into a larger celebration of the many fillies who changed the course of racing history.From the trailblazing power of Rachel Alexandra, who shattered a nearly century-long drought when she won the Preakness Stakes in 2009, to the majestic and undefeated Zenyatta, whose late-running style and dramatic finishes made her a fan favorite—these fillies were more than just winners. They were icons.
